Invisalign Treatment: What To Expect

There’s no denying the fact that clear aligners have transformed the world of orthodontic treatments, offering a more convenient, comfortable, and discreet option in comparison to traditional ceramic or metal version. As your dentist in Wheaton or Takoma Park, we’ve seen countless examples of the Invisalign system correcting a variety of alignment and bite issues while maintaining patient self-confidence.

How does the Invisalign system work?

Crafted from BPA-free clear plastic, Invisalign aligners are customized to fit your unique smile. After x-rays, photos, and impressions are taken in our office, a series of aligners will be made to fit your smile throughout the alignment process.

You can expect to receive new aligners every two weeks, which will progressively move your teeth into their ideal positions. Unlike metal braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed at will, though it’s ideal to wear them between 20 and 22 hours each day for best results.

What will happen during your first visit/consultation?

While this system is incredibly helpful for treating crowding, gaps, bite problems, and other orthodontic issues, it isn’t an option for every smile.

During your visit to our office in Wheaton or Takoma Park, we’ll determine if Invisalign might be right for you, and take the time to answer any questions you may have about the system, including:

  • How long can I expect to wear aligners?
  • What will the approximate cost of an Invisalign treatment be?
  • What are payment options and is insurance accepted?
  • Is financing available?

What can you expect following treatment?

While Invisalign’s advanced technology enables us to give you a preview of what your smile will look like once your treatment is complete, it’s important to remember that, as with all orthodontic interventions, there’s a chance that your teeth may revert to their original position with time. For this reason, we encourage you to talk to us about whether a retainer would benefit your smile in the short and long term.
